About Our Yeshiva

If all children were alike, then one kind of yeshiva could provide them all with a good Torah education and prepare them for adulthood. But every child is different, and most young men entering high school have no clear idea of where the future will lead them. To some, success will come easily, while others will need more encouragement to achieve their full potential.

At Ohr Reuven, we believe that every child is a unique individual with his own style of acquiring knowledge. By getting to know his personality - a quick smile, the gleam in an eye - and his strengths and weaknesses, we seek to discover the best in him and to educate and lead him towards a fulfilling life as a Jewish adult.

Beginning in the ninth grade, the Yeshiva follows a curriculum which includes four full Mesechtos of Gemara, with Rishonim and Acharonim, all of Chumash-Rashi, and all of Nach. In addition, many boys will complete all of Shulchan Oruch, Orach Chayim by the end of their school careers.

Limudei Chol are also taken seriously. All our secular subject courses are New York State Regents accredited, and our students earn New York State Diplomas when they complete their education.

The entire program is designed to provide a well rounded Jewish and general education which will instill in our students a love for Torah learning, a desire ti serve their fellow Jews, and a strong commitment to honesty in intellectual pursuits and daily life.

High School is the pivotal experience for the vast majority of Jewish youngsters. It is here that boys develop the attitudes, and very often the friendships, that will be with them for the rest of their lives. The role of the school in this process is crucial. Will they develop that heightened sense of responsibility towards those around them that distinguishes truly committed and curing people?

The Beis Medrash and Kollel program is designed to provide an opportunity for budding talmidei chachomim to flourish. The older bochurim act as role models for the younger high school boys. During morning Seder, the bochurim learn an amud of gemara. During second Seder, a blatt in another masechta is learned, along with a halacha shiur given by the Rosh Hayeshiva.

Each member of the Faculty shares the ideals of the Yeshiva and evidences them in his own lifestyle. At their head stands the Rosh Hayeshiva, Rabbi Bezalel Rudinsky, an educator blesses with the ability to inspire others to reach for heights otherwise considered unattainable. A man of prodigious energy who knows no rest, he challenges the youngsters under his tutelage to study harder, to learn more and to integrate their Torah knowledge with every aspect of their lives.

Yeshivas Ohr Reuven provides a total school environment where the lessons learned each day are meant to be integrated into the personality. We strive to create an atmosphere in which our boys see Torah learning as an integral part of their lives, regardless of the path they will choose as adults. We try to teach them that the lessons leaned in the classroom must be reflected in their everyday actions.
